I Watched The Watchmen

Finally I watched The Watchmen. After I post the previous entry, I tell myself to stop whining and move my lazy bum to pyramid. So, the movie obviously would never be as good as the graphic novel, but I think this movie is not a bad adaptation. It loses some details, just like other comic/book inspired movie always have, but it maintain the main parts. Plus, it has nice opening credits.

The movie is complicated, like the graphic novels, and I think people who didn't read the graphic novel wouldn't like the movie. I don't think people could enjoy watching this movie because the story is quite complicated, it's not a light story that you can understand in one shot. There's a lot of important monologue in graphic novels that makes us understand the motives of each characters, on how they become who they are then. In movie they try to make it as detail as graphic novel but obviously they can't and it makes some parts of the story lack of depth. I won't blame people for not understanding what happened in the movie since there's just tooooo many sub stories here and there without in depth explanation like in graphic novel.

On the actors, I must salute the actor who played Rorschach. It's like he's born to be him. I think his interpretation of Rorschach is perfect. Really love the way he talk and move and everything. Even without the mask he can be so awesome. Not to mention he always got very interesting monologue. Love him.

I also quite like Dr.Manhattan there, and actually I don't expect him to have such a soft voice since I always imagine him with colder voice tone. The minus point is just that sometimes he sounds more to confuse than all knowing. About the actor who played Veidt, I just think his acting is awkward. Don't like. I think he just can't pull Ozymandias. The actor who played The Comedian also very very awesome, he's so him. Silk specter also somehow better than I thought, while Night Owl... his costume is too Batman-ish here to me, but his acting is not bad.

Overall to me it's a good graphic novel adaptation, I recommend people to read the graphic novel before watch the movie or maybe you'll be quite clueless and don't understand why the characters become like that.

Favorite quote:

Heard a joke once.
Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed.
Says life seems harsh and cruel.
Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lieas ahead is vague and uncertain.
Doctor says, "Treatment is simple. Great clown Pogliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up.
Man burst into tears, "But doctor... I am Pogliacci"
Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drums. Curtains.
-Rorschach
To me the quote is so sad. Who'll cheer up the "clowns" when they're sad?
